First coat!

Heya everyone just a quick update, got the shield pieced together and I have to say it came out nicely.

It certainly was easier the second time.  The white areas are the pieces I ended up replacing.  Here is a snapshot of what the first one looked like in comparison.

So you can see the top center piece is more pronounced in the left one where as the right one is just slapped on there.  Started putting the resin on a little late so I wasn't able to see if it had hardened this morning or not. but got a nice snap shot of it last night.

When I get home, I'll probably put another coat on for good measure.  Will also try to pick up some bondo/rondo later as well for the underside.  More to come!

Back on track!

Was working tonight on the shield.  Instead of scraping the whole thing and starting anew, I decided to reprint the problem areas and keep the materials I had already printed out.

The white areas are the reprints while the gray areas are the original that I hadn't pieced together yet.  I found that trying to do this with just two hands is quite the challenge and with no one to help me I had to call on a little help.

These little bad boys held the pieces together like little champs.  At the most, I've only needed about four at a time and even then I could have skated by with just one or two.  Got a lot done tonight and I was happy with today's work.  While I didn't continue gluing pieces on, I took some more parts and finished up the outline of the shield.

So far, I'm quite proud of it!  I just have to finish gluing the outline together, then I can start in on the guts!  After then,  I'll start putting coats of resin on it to prep it for the bondo... which remind me I should go buy some tomorrow. Thanks for joining me!

Opps...

As Jorge is so kind to point out, I've actually managed to goof up on the shield. The edges, are actually suppose to be the other way around, going up.
A clearer shot of what the goof looks like.  I actually tried to take this apart and ended up ripping the material kind of badly.  I'm going to reprint them Sunday and try again.  This would be somewhat easier if I could actually have the 3D model to look at while I'm doing this lol.  Tomorrow after work, I'll try to heat up the glue and take it apart that way.  I might not have to reprint it all either.

First Project!

Heya everyone!  Goob here with my first post on the blog!  I'm happy to say that the first project I'm doing is already under way.  If you can't see from the picture above, I've gotten it all printed out from the program Pepakura.  Think of it like digital origami.

The file I'm using now is a Hylian Shield.  Though it won't be a normal one.  Once it's made, I plan on customizing it for a friend.  I hope to have it done by Christmas but you never know.  Also, some of you may notice Jorge in some of the pictures.  Though not in this one, he'll show up from time to time.  Makes for great conversations when you're stuck doing this stuff.
